What is Cryopen?
Cryopen is a handheld device that uses cryotherapy to remove skin tags, warts, and other skin lesions. Cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue. The Cryopen device uses a fine jet of nitrous oxide gas to freeze and remove skin tags without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. The treatment is safe, painless, and requires no anaesthesia.
How Does Cryotherapy Work?
Cryotherapy works by freezing the skin tag or lesion, causing the cells to rupture and die. The body’s immune system removes dead cells, and new healthy tissue grows. It is a quick and effective way to remove skin tags and other benign skin lesions.
What is skin tag?
A skin tag is a small, soft, skin-coloured growth on your skin. It can vary in colour and size – from a few millimetres to 5cm wide.
They are usually found on the neck, armpits, around the groin, or under the breasts. Skin tags can also grow on the eyelids or under the folds of the buttocks, where the edges of clothing can irritate the skin from a build-up of collagen and vessels.
They can look like warts, but they are usually:
- smooth and soft (warts tend to be rougher with an irregular surface)
- knobbly and hang off the skin (warts are usually slightly raised or flat)
- not contagious (warts spread very quickly, so a sudden outbreak or cluster of growths is more likely to be warts)
- Do not usually cause any pain or discomfort.
Why skin tags occur?
Both men and women can develop skin tags. Some people develop them for no apparent reason. But, they tend to occur in older people and people who are obese or have type 2 diabetes. Pregnant women may also be more likely to develop skin tags due to changes in their hormone levels.
Skin tags tend to grow in the skin folds, where the skin rubs against itself, such as on the neck, armpits or groin. This is why they tend to affect overweight people with excess skin folds and skin chafing.
Skin Tag Removal
A Skin tag can easily be burnt or frozen off, similar to how we remove warts in the clinic. They can also be surgically removed, sometimes using local anaesthetic. But there is a risk of minor bleeding. Freezing or burning skin tags can cause mild irritation and temporary skin discolouration.
Why Use Cryotherapy for Skin Tag Removal?
Cryotherapy is a safe, effective, and painless way to remove skin tags. Unlike other methods, such as surgical removal or cauterization, cryotherapy does not require any cutting or burning of the skin. The procedure is also faster than other methods, with most skin tags removed in a single treatment. The treatment is also less likely to leave a scar than other methods.
Removing Skin Tag with CryoPen™ - Cryotherapy Device
The CryoPen™ will offer pinpoint accuracy and flexible treatment, lasting only a few seconds. The advanced Cryotherapy device delivers an ultra-cold jet of high-pressured N2O directly onto skin lesions.
How CryoPen - Cryotherapy Device works?
Our cryotherapy uses a CryoPen™ that deploys disposable cartridges of liquefied N2O to deliver quick, effective cryotherapy treatments to benign skin lesions. Nitrous oxide destroys tissues by freezing the intercellular fluid and forming ice shards and crystals that rupture the cell’s membrane, destroying the cells. The ultra-cold jet of N2O cuts off the blood supply during the freezing process, ensuring the client’s safety during the procedure.
Because it delivers N2O directly onto the lesion and not the healthy surrounding tissue, it can safely treat lesions on the face and around the delicate eye area. CryoPen™ accurately delivers an ultra-cold, high-pressure N2O jet directly onto the lesion, making it very effective. It is also very fast, with a penetration rate of 1mm per 5 seconds and able to penetrate to a depth of 5mm deep.

What to Expect During Cryotherapy?

The skin tag will freeze and turn white, and then the device is removed. There may be a slight stinging or burning sensation during the procedure, but it is generally painless. The procedure takes only a few minutes, and there is no downtime or recovery period.
