Understanding Hair Loss
Hair loss, medically known as alopecia, affects millions of people worldwide. Genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, stress, and certain medical conditions can cause it. Therefore, understanding the root cause of your hair loss is crucial in determining the most appropriate treatment approach.
Common Causes of Hair Loss:
Genetic Factors
One of the primary causes of hair loss is genetic predisposition. Male pattern baldness, known as androgenetic alopecia, affects many men worldwide. Similarly, female pattern hair loss can also be attributed to genetic factors.
Hormonal Imbalances
Hormonal imbalances, particularly an excess of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp, can lead to hair loss. DHT is a hormone derived from testosterone that can shrink hair follicles, resulting in thinner and shorter hair strands.
Nutritional Deficiencies
Inadequate intake of essential nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and proteins, can negatively impact hair health. Nutritional deficiencies weaken the hair follicles, making them more prone to shedding and breakage.
Stress and Emotional Factors
Chronic stress, anxiety, and emotional turmoil can contribute to hair loss. Releasing stress hormones can disrupt hair growth and lead to excessive shedding.
Medical Conditions
Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders, autoimmune diseases, and scalp infections, can cause hair loss. It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional to identify and address any underlying medical conditions contributing to your hair loss.
Hair loss is common
Hair loss “Alopecia” is a progressive condition with different forms and causes. The most common hair loss type, known as Androgenetic Alopecia, is hereditary. If left untreated, hair loss usually progresses over time.

How it works
Book your appointment with HSA Dermal Clinic. The test is carried out by a professional in the clinic.
At the clinic, we will take a swab from the inside of your mouth to obtain a sample of your DNA. You will also be asked to complete a simple questionnaire to determine a number of lifestyle factors including age, height, weight and any medical conditions you may have.
We will send the swab to will to the laboratory to analyse a total of 48 genetic variations from your DNA sample.
Detecting DNA variations, known as SNPs, facilitates our understanding of the specific characteristics of your metabolism which contribute to your hair loss. All SNPs tested by Fagron TrichoTest™ have been scientifically validated by global research.
Within 14 days, we will receive a report containing the results of your test. This will indicate which elements from your genetic coding and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your hair loss and recommend effective hair loss treatment options for you.
